The work done to provide image sensors (CCDs and CMOS) with a wide dynamic range is reviewed. The different classes of solutions, which consist of logarithmic sensors, ‘‘clipped’’ sensors, multimode sensors, frequency-based sensors, and sensors with control over integration time are described. The pros and cons of each solution are discussed, and some new experimental results are shown. Active pixel sensors with a wide dynamic range are analyzed and possible future directions are pointed out. © 1999 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers. [S0091-3286(99)01610-4]

Weight Measurements by Using Simple Optical-Fiber Sensors (RESEARCH NOTE)
The use of different optical-fiber sensors for weighing measurements is Abstract described. By using three different mechanical stressing mechanisms, the operation of the fiber-to-fiber transducer systems are tested and the results are presented. Parameters such as sensitivity, hysteresis, resolution, and dynamic range are measured. A comparison of the results has shown that the sensor system m...
متن کاملCharge-integrating organic heterojunction phototransistors for wide-dynamic-range image sensors
Solution-processed phototransistors can substantially advance the performance of image sensors. Phototransistors exhibit large photoconductive gain and a sublinear responsivity to irradiance, which enables a logarithmic sensing of irradiance that is akin to the human eye and has a wider dynamic range than photodiode-based image sensors. Here, we present a novel solution-processed phototransisto...

There are fewer problems encountered with optical voltage transducers in comparison with their inductive and capacitive counterparts. Although capacitive and inductive transformers are used vastly for the purpose of measurement and protection in the networks, they cause problems such as core saturation and improper transient responses which decrease the accuracy of measurement and eficiency of ...
متن کاملIntegrated Ambient Light Sensor with an LTPS Noise-Robust Circuit and a-Si Photodiodes for AMLCDs
Ambient light sensors have been used to reduce power consumption of Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Displays (AMLCD) adjusting display brightness depending on ambient illumination. Discrete sensors have been commonly used for this purpose. They make module design complex. Therefore it has been required to integrate the sensors on the display panels for solving the issue. So far, many kinds of inte...
متن کامل3D-stacking architecture for low-noise high-speed image sensors
In this paper, architectures for low-noise high-speed image sensors based on 3D stacking technology are discussed. Effectiveness of the 3D-stacking technology for low-noise high-speed image sensors is demonstrated in an implementation of a 33Mpixel 240fps 3D-stacked CMOS image sensor based on 12b 3-stage cyclic-based pipelined ADCs. For extremely low noise and wide dynamic range imaging, highly...
